The launch arrives as Snap recently expanded its investment in AR shopping by introducing an in-app destination for AR fashion and virtual try-on called ”DressUp” a tool that turns retailers’ photos into 3D assets. The media giant has been making strides with AR-powered e-commerce over the past year. He has given its computer vision-based Scan, which analyzes content in a user’s camera feed to quickly bring up relevant information. Snap says around 170 million users per month use the feature. which has now been given a more prominent placement inside the camera section of the app, and has been upgraded with commerce capabilities.

Snapchat says that it conducted a study with consulting firm Ipsos and discovered that 92% of Gen Z users are interested in using AR for shopping. This is not a surprise that AR is becoming more popular for shopping purposes, as more and more companies are integrating technology into their retail efforts.

For example, shopping giant amazon Amazon rolled out a feature called Virtual Try-On for Shoes in June that lets customers visualize how a pair of new shoes will look on themselves from numerous angles using their smartphone’s camera. In addition, Pinterest and Google have also leveraged AR to allow shoppers to try on makeup, apparel, and accessories.
