Elon Musk company Tesla is fastly reacting to the NHTSA’s analysis of in-dash gaming while the car is in motion. The Guardian has discovered that Tesla will make an update disabling on-the-move Passenger Play. A spokeswoman for the regulator told that Tesla has promised the change after discussing the issue with officials. There wasn’t any statement of when the update will arrive, whereas it is safe to assume you’ll have to park for forthcoming gaming sessions.

The representative highlighted that the investigation will resume despite the update. The NHTSA restated that the Vehicle Safety Act bars companies to sell cars that pose significant protection risks, including distracted driving. The investigation covers around 580,000 Tesla EVs between the 2017 and 2022 model years.

Tesla no longer operates a public relations crew and was not available for comment. The feature change is not surprising, though. Inaction will worsen the consequences if the NHTSA uncovers that Tesla was negligent. There’s even the matter of competitive pressure. Mercedes-Benz lately resolved an error that permitted mid-drive video playback — it would not look good if Tesla rejected to follow suit.
