In its greatest push into the gaming industry, Microsoft has announced that it will be acquiring Activision Blizzard in an all-cash transaction of $68.7 billion.

Once the deal is completed, Microsoft will become the “third-largest gaming company by revenue, after Tencent and Sony”.

Microsoft intends on adding multiple Activision games to Xbox Game Pass. The action will bring popular franchises from Activision, Blizzard, and King Studios, including Warcraft, Call of Duty, Overwatch, Candy Crush, Spyro, Diablo, and much more beneath the Microsoft Gaming umbrella.

Other popular PC, smartphone titles, and consoles will also be included, enabling Microsoft to grow its gaming business in further directions.

On the latest development, Microsoft’s CEO of Gaming Phil Spencer remarked:

Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog.

As of January 2022, Xbox Game Pass has above 25 million subscribers, while Microsoft continues to acquire studios to boost the subscription service.

Satya Nadella CEO of Microsoft also stated,

We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community, and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive, and accessible to all.

Activision features near to 400 million monthly active players, and around 10,000 employees.

When the deal is finalized, Microsoft will have 30 game development studios under its wing with over decades of knowledge in game publishing.

 CEO to Remain at Activision

Bobby Kotick is expected to remain CEO of Activision Blizzard for the period until the deal closes. After the deal period to Microsoft, Activision Blizzard will directly report to Phil Spencer as CEO.

Spencer also highlighted,
